Being new to Internet Marketing can be an overwhelming experience. So called experts pop up everywhere trying to sell you on “the next big thing.”
Meantime the newbie says “show me the money!” Overnight success is what they dream of, expecting to make $3 – $5K in 2 months’ time. But remember this famous quote: “It takes twenty years of hard work to become an overnight success.”
I think the difference between a brick and mortar business and an Internet business is that it takes little to no start up capital to build the latter. Once you are in business, though, it takes equal amount of hard work to be successful.
So, what is the secret to success in Internet Marketing? It is focus! Isn’t it almost a relieve to hear that you not only shouldn’t jump from one opportunity to the next, but you don’t have to?
You can keep yourself busy for years purchasing one IM course after another, not even implementing half of it, not sticking with any one thing for long, and never making any significant amount of money.
My best example for what focus can get you is Mike Geary. Mike wrote “The Truth About Abs,” a popular Clickbank product. He spent every free minute he had outside his regular job for two full years trying to make his e-book the success it is today. He kept trying, learning, tweaking, and most of all, he didn’t give up! Could you imagine sticking with something for 2 years without being successful? Could you imagine doing it for 2 months? Probably not, right? Well, Mike now brings in 3 – 4 Million Dollars a year. Just another “overnight success” story.
This is my best advice to you: Focus on only one project. A good way to start out in Internet Marketing is as an affiliate. This way you will have to neither spend time nor money on a product that might not sell. Choose a niche that is popular and that genuinely interests you. Market this product as an affiliate with the intent of one day replacing the affiliate product with your own.
Now, there’s nothing wrong with buying courses and products. What I recommend, though, is that you only purchase those courses and tools when you need them. So, you would purchase the article marketing course at the point that article marketing is the primary focus in your business. The SEO course when you are trying to improve your web site ranking and traffic. And the conversion course after you have your web site and have traffic and you are at the point where you want to improve your conversion. The same holds true for any tools or software programs. Purchase them only when you need them.
Do not buy into the scarcity tactics of internet marketers. Tools and information will always be available. There’s no magic tool or course, so you are not missing a thing.
Stay focused!
